Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of the website. Accessing a page, reading its content, or submitting a search means that you agree to the terms below. If you do not agree, discontinue use of the site.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website is not tied to a local, Virginia, or federal government body. Neither it nor its advertising partners provides a service designed for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or another use regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to route readers to Roanoke City and Virginia criminal-record resources. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site with no government affiliation. We do not maintain official records, conduct official criminal-history checks, retrieve documents, or file paperwork for a visitor.

Instead, the content identifies Roanoke City custodians, including police, the sheriff and detention center, the criminal courts, the Virginia Department of State Police, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also connect to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

By using the site, you agree not to:

  • Use the content in violation of a federal, Virginia, or local law
  • Harass, stalk, intimidate, or threaten a person with information found here
  • Apply site content to hiring, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt to enter restricted systems or bypass access controls
  • Deploy bots, scraping software, or other automated collection tools
  • Interfere with service or prevent others from accessing the pages

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use information from the site or a linked tool to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also be criminal. The Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry is intended for public-safety awareness, and registry information must not be turned into vigilantism, blacklisting, or unlawful discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not prepare consumer reports, credit reports, or official background checks. Our advertising partners are not presented as providers for job, rental, insurance, or credit screening. You must not use data from this site or a linked tool to:

  • Approve or deny work or continued employment
  • Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
  • Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
  • Make eligibility decisions about permits, licenses, or public programs
  • Carry out any other purpose governed by the FCRA

Where a lawful purpose requires a proper report, use the applicable Virginia Department of State Police process or an FCRA-compliant provider.

5. No Legal Advice

The site's general information is not legal advice. It cannot determine how a Roanoke charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement procedure applies to a specific matter. Seek advice from a licensed Virginia attorney.

6. No Warranties

All material is supplied "as is." We make no promise that:

  • Partner search results will be complete, current, or correctly matched
  • Every statement on the site is always accurate or up to date
  • The service will remain available without interruption
  • The pages contain no error, defect, or security weakness

Charges may be filed, changed, dismissed, sealed, or expunged, so records do not remain static. Information may therefore have gaps. No statement here is an official declaration by Roanoke Police, the sheriff, a court, or a Virginia agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to police and sheriff pages, court portals, Virginia agencies, legal resources, and outside search services. We do not operate those destinations and are not responsible for their content, fees, data practices, accuracy, or availability. Read the destination's terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Roanoke City Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, graphics, logos, and code. Written permission is required before copying, distributing, adapting, or building upon that material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the site, its information, or a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, demands, or legal proceedings caused by your use of the site or breach of these terms, including related legal costs and fees.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms, and a dispute arising from site use must be brought in a court located in Virginia. For clarity, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act applies to public bodies, while Virginia Code § 19.2-389 governs dissemination from the state criminal-history repository; neither makes this private site an official custodian.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms at any time. A revision becomes effective once it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, all remaining terms continue in force. The affected language will be adjusted only as far as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
